I love the 'owl' that has been so popular but the peanut, whether vintage Planter's or new ceramic has stolen my heart. 

This dish is fun and I'm taking a look at finding one on etsy.com or from the Z-Gallery shelf.

The kitchen habit

Happy New Month! 

I've found that if I say Happy New Year I'm overwhelmed by the length of commitment, so I'll just keep my commitments for organizing at a minimum-one month at a time-one room at a time because I always bite off more than I can chew...my parent's used to say that phrase whenever I served myself too much of a favorite food and then couldn't finish the amount on my plate. What a waste...

The principle holds true for organization too. I start with good intentions and then fail to finish the 'Martha Stewart' list...which was an impossible dream to begin with-what was I thinking? So the plan this month is to keep the list small-choose 3 tasks from the list below for a week or two weeks, then pick 3 more and so on and so on for the month of January. 

1. Gadgets and cooking tools
2. Small appliances
3. Clear off the kitchen table top
4. Clear off the counter-tops
5. Tablecloths, napkins and placemats
6. Plastic cups, water bottles, food storage containers
7. Zippered plastic bags, aluminum foil and plastic wrap
8. Cabinet shelves and drawers
9. Junk drawer
10. Under the kitchen sink
11. Tops of cabinets
12. Pots and pans (and match each w/lid)
13. Baking dishes and sheets
14. Top and front of refrigerator

This is the year

I'm writing today under a hazy sky at 30 degree temperatures...not too bad. Anyway, other than fairly warm temps, the ground is still too cold for digging. We've been in this house almost 15 years and we still have a list a mile long of things we'd like to do. Dream 'PINTEREST' projects that I need ooh-bur amounts of cash to complete, but mostly this will be the year to tackle installing stair railings for the side entrance to the house. Mainly for safety reasons; but I want it to look good too. 

I'm falling in love with my house all over again! The ideas I have for this railing are long....and I need your help deciding what style of railing to save $$ for. Let's talk about future railing plans shall we?

I don't want the railing too complicated. What do you think about wood AND iron? I'm pretty sure I think I have a money tree in the yard, but it's fun to daydream, right?

I'd like to use the same look for the basement stairway, which probably won't happen since each stairway is so different looking...

unless we use iron for both mmmmm

RE-USE / RE-PURPOSE 

Happy Fall

Good afternoon, I had a wonderful Saturday that began Friday evening at home. My photography doesn't capture the wonderful bbq I enjoyed last night with friends. It looks like a floppy mess on my plate but it has all my favorite foods; pea salad, sour cream potatoes, roast beef beans, guacamole, baked veggies and brats (October-fest-ish). 

This will be one of the last weekends to capture the fall colors in our area. (again my photography doesn't do the scenery justice).

  

Saturday began with the task of organizing my bedroom. My behavior is rooted in my up-bringing (work first then play).

 And here is playing; I had fun making these twine & flat washer embellishments for my fall table setting.
